The Falkirk Wheel

In 2020 Hy Spec services won the opportunity to work with Mackenzie construction and Scottish Canals on The Falkirk Wheel, painting the steelwork and finishing the job by power washing the concrete piers.

Before the project began the axle end was showing a breakdown of the existing paint system, with large areas of corrosion. This was then prepped and painted as a beginning project. Following this we then mechanically prepped and painted the full structure as well as power washing the piers, classing and hoops.

 In order to access the structure, Hy Spec operatives used a maintenance platform and MEWP. We were able to carry out this project on 2 weeks of day shift when the structure was closed followed by nightshift to minimise disruption.
