Grit Blasting

Hy Spec Services have been carrying out preparation works in the form of Grit Blasting for almost 25 years. Grit Blasting, otherwise known as Shot Blasting or Sand Blasting, uses abrasive material, like grit, to remove existing paint, rust, mill scale and/or grease, to take the steelwork back to sound paint or clean steel. A new paint system can then be applied to the surface. This can be done up to and including Sa2½ standard.

Hy Spec Services encapsulate structures or scaffold to contain the blast material, then collect and dispose of the spent abrasive. Hy Spec also deal with lead based paint on existing structures; using the appropriate PPE, monitoring the lead levels in the blood of our operatives and disposing of the waste in the appropriate way.

Mechanical Preparation

Hy Spec Services have also been carrying out preparation works using mechanical tools for almost 25 years. Mechanical preparation involves removing existing paint, rust and/or grease, using hand and mechanical tools, to take the steelwork back to sound paint or clean steel. A new paint system can then be applied to the surface. This can be done to St2 and St3 standard.

Again, Hy Spec contain and collect the removed material and dispose of it using the correct method. This can be also be done for lead based paint on existing structures.
